Government House - built over 6 years from 1729 to 1735, Government House has been proclaimed a national monument and reveals the splendours of times gone by.

Central Market - this is the meeting point for Mauritians looking for a cari (curry) or dithé (tea). Here you will find local crafts, vegetables, famous dhall purris as well as herbal tea sellers.

Jummah Mosque – the largest and most important Islamic monument in Mauritius, it is curiously located in the middle of of Port Louis' Chinatown. The mosque is ornately adorned with teak doors and decorative doors and a magnificent marble interior.

Grand Baie

Flacq is one of the most important villages in Mauritius. This meeting point of eastern inhabitant encloses the largest open-air market of the country. The extremely colourful market attracts many people.

Pamplemousses Gardens
The gardens are known to naturalists throughout the world for the large collection of indigenous and exotic plants including the giant Victoria Amazonica water lillies and many species of palm trees. Of interest is the talipot palm said to flower once every 60 years after which it dies.

Black River Gorges
This is a national park of 6,574 hectares which was created in 1994 for the protection of the remaining native forests of Mauritius. Visitors can enjoy magnificent landscapes with endemic plants and rare bird species.

Deep Sea Fishing
Mauritius is a deep sea fishing paradise. Try your luck at the blue or black marlin, all types of sharks, yellow-fin tuna, sailfish wahoo and barracuda. From November to April, these predators feed close to the island where the bottom falls to 70 metres just a mile from shore.

Golfing
Mauritius offers the golf enthusiast a great selection. The Belle Mare Plage Resort offers 2 championship golf courses, 'Legends' and 'The Links', allowing the visitor to play 36 holes of golf. The 'Gymkhana Clu' offers 18 holes and is the oldest course in Mauritius, dating back 100 years. Day memberships can be organized.
